In response to the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act of 2001, OSHA revised this standard by clarifying the need to select safer needle and sharps devices and to involve employees in identifying and choosing these devices.

Here are a few interesting facts from the OSHA Regulations:

• It requires employers to review and update their Exposure Control Plan (ECP) at least annually.
• Employers document annually their consideration and implementation of appropriate commercially available and effective safer medical devices.
• Devices must be selected based on employee feedback.
